National Grandparents Day. In the 1970's, Marianne Lucille Herndon Mcquade was a simple housewife who had campaigned to have a day dedicated to the grandparents. Efforts of other business, establishments, churches, and political leaders, this campaign became known and has spread throughout the country.



Senator Jennings Randolph pushed a resolution to make this one to be a national holiday. But it soon turned out by the committee. Marianne and other supporters turned out to the media, governors, and senators, to gain support. Mrs Mcquades team also sent letters to churches and other organization for support and those organizations who were concerned with the senior citizens. In 19 78 after five years of hard work for the campaign of senior citizens, The United States Passed a legislation that proclaiming that the first Sunday after Labor Day would be
Grandparents Day or National Grand parents Day.
